Weather

In October 2007, BCARC purchased and installed a new weather reporting station. Originally it was planned to install this equipment at the Buchanan County Emergency Operations Centers currently located in the old county home building, but with the future of that site being unknown it was decided to instead install the equipment at the Independence Fire Station.

This station reports temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, and the precipitation for the current day. The sensors are mounted on the roof of the fire station, and weather data is displayed on a console in the fire station’s office. Thanks to financial assistance from Independence Fire, BCARC was able to obtain software that collects all of the weather data and transmits it over the Internet in real-time to The Weather Underground.

BCARC extends their gratitude to Chief Cook and all of the members of Independence Fire for helping us with this project, as well as for allowing us to use their Internet connection so we can provide this valuable service to the community.
